The World's Gone Crazy!
The cartoons of Mohammed first appeared in Danish paper
Jyllands-Posten in September. The paper said it had asked cartoonists
to draw the pictures because the media was censoring itself over Muslim
issues.
Islam forbids depictions of Mohammed and many Muslims
were furious at the drawings, one of which shows the religious figure
wearing a turban shaped like a bomb.
Some other European papers
later published some of the cartoons, as a way of covering the
controversy and also, some papers said, as a matter of freedom of
expression
In Paris, France Soir -- a newspaper that published
the cartoons -- was evacuated for nearly three hours Monday after
receiving a bomb threat.
Two small weekly Jordanian newspapers
also reprinted the cartoons and, according to Jordan's Petra News
Agency, arrest warrants were issued for the editors-in-chief.
The
Danish paper issued an apology in late January after weeks of quieter
expressions of outrage and diplomatic efforts to avoid the widespread
violence.
The Danish government says it does not control what is
in the country's newspapers and that courts will determine whether the
newspaper that originally published the cartoons is guilty of blasphemy.
The government has also expressed apologies for the offending drawings.

We're muslims and we live in a muslim country. The outrage is way too much and we're against all kind of rage and most of the radical muslim countries have too much fury , OK...but we think this is a contradiction...the rule is simple in islam : Islam forbids depictions of Mohammed so people should respect this rule...on the other hand there's something called " freedom of expression". There should be a balance between these two facts...

Bluesfann, that doesn't seem to justify the fact that the cartoonist now has to fear for his life.

I dont understand too they say is not true they are not at all like like in the cartoons, so why are they acting like primitive people killing each other even killing people that are not muslims just to get even.

In response to the previous post:
you said: "a danish paper prints a couple offensive, yet harmless cartoons"
They are not "harmless", they are very harmful, because they promote hate, and hate is NEVER harmless!
You said: " arabs start burning down KFCs and mcdonalds, (...)etc"
Why did you blame ALL of us by saying "Arabs" and not something such as "radicals" ??? This is EXACTLY the problem with this whole issue! Generalzing, stereotyping and scapegoating, all of which result in innocent paying the price for the actions of the wrong do-er's

lol. yeah sure the rest of the world should respect that no pictures are to made of muhamid... but then, it's not the rest of the world's belief
of course it's becoming aparent now what is going on. a danish paper prints a couple offensive, yet harmless cartoons, and arabs start burning down KFCs and mcdonalds, surrounding and attacking foriegn offices and getting kids killed. classic. just what we've come to expect.

I do not understand all this. "Islam forbids depictions of Mahammed" you stated, but ... in different even Islamic countries there are depictions of the Prophet to be found in musea and libraries ??? How comes???

Hi there, I accidentally came across this blog and I read this entry and I felt I had to comment. With all respect to your comment (and yes I am Muslim and I *ABSOLUTELY* believe in freedom of expression), however I feel your view of this whole issue is very simplistic. This resentment by Muslims is not just about some hot headed, narrow minded, radicals nor is it about a picture of the prophet. It is more about hatred (or at best, disrespect) towards us a Muslims as a group, or portraying us all as enemies of freedom and civilisation, which is not true and it hurts. I guess it feels just like the sense of resentment a gay person would feel towards an expression of homophobia or hatred toward gays or portraying gays as bad or sick people, you know its unfair and not true but yet is rampant and it makes you upset.
