Didn't This Used To Be Fun??

Ddutbf

DIDN’T THIS USED TO BE FUN? is a groundbreaking musical short that revolves around the main character, Shane, a trust fund baby who's lived his life in excessive abandonment while maintaining a steady diet of sex and drugs. Complete with friends that could only be described as party accessories, Shane slowly realizes that his reckless lifestyle has brought more pain and indifference, than fun. Starring in the film are Julliard graduate Nick Mayo, Allen Hidalgo (Broadway's HOT FEET), Michael Hayward-Jones (LES MISERABLES), and adult film star Sean Lockhart (AKA Brent Corrigan). The film was directed by Ryan J. Davis (Conceiver/Director of the NYMF smash WHITE NOISE) and produced by Kevin Arbouet (SERIAL, I BELIEVE IN AMERICA). The film was partially shot at New York’s Zipper Theater, which was turned into a night club set for the occasion.

DIDN’T THIS USED TO BE FUN? will debut in New York in April 2007. The short film is based on a section of the full-length stage musical PRINCE HAL OF SOHO.

Rapture"As an artist, I am inspired to create because it is important to me, because I believe in it, and because I am passionate about what I do. I can only create art that comes from my soul.  I can't create it for other people.  I can't create it so that people will want to buy it.  I can't create it so critics will respond to it.  Because of that I feel very grateful and fortunate for the tremendous reception of my works. I am starting to make a living on something that I am excited to do.  I am very grateful to have a good number of people in Boston and Manhattan who now collect my work."
Frank captures incredibly great visions - and is executed with great style from his amazing talent...well we are not art critics and we are not capable of making fancy comments about his works...all we can say is his style is young and passionate and his works are really fascinating. Now is the time to scoop up his work before it becomes more famous & expensive!

Here are two gates to explore Frank and his works...Each sides of the image below will lead you to two different places! Just click...

A Bed and Five Stories..

Pirelli_splash_1
The eagerly awaited 2007 edition of the Pirelli Calendar has been presented to the press, guests, and collectors from around the world at Battersea Evolution Park in London. The stars of this edition are five of Hollywood’s most acclaimed and beloved actresses: Sophia Loren, Penelope Cruz, Hilary Swank, Naomi Watts and daring newcomer Lou Doillon, photographed by the Dutch duo Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in California.

A bed and five stories. The unique 2007 calendar marks a turning point: the glamour that characterized past editions is absent. There has been a return to the simplicity of the film sets, stories and photography of the early sixties (reminiscent of the films of Pier Paolo Pasolini and Michelangelo Antonioni): the personality of the person prevails over the environment in a plain, unadorned setting. Simple, spontaneous images portray five women. These profound, secret stories reveal the most private and hidden soul of the protagonists. The resolute and proud personalities of the actresses overwhelmingly emerge in the bareness of the environment.

“We are in a room with just a bed and sheet. We wanted to make it as personal and intimate as possible, as if we were shooting pictures with friends”

Penelope_front

"We wanted to make it as personal and intimate as possible, as if we were shooting pictures with friends,” said Inez. This completely new way of portraying the actresses sharply contrasts with the usual images of the five superstars appearing in the media –from the red carpet of film premieres to glossy glamour magazine photos and snapshots taken by the paparazzi.

Three Diamonds

3diamonds_1
In Spain, back in the 70's, television networks used diamonds as a rating code for minor viewers. Three Diamonds was the highest level and was meant to warn against programs not suitable for minors under 18.Nowadays Three Diamonds is questioning about masculine sexuality. It's a peculiar   vision of men and of their hedonistism. Gaby who is a graphic designer from Paris , sent us an e-mail about his work and Three Diamonds project. Go and check his website...

Dior Summer 2006 Ad Campaign

Dior_splash
For his Spring /Summer 2006 Dior advertising campaign, Hedi Slimane found a muse that followed his aesthetic perfectly. To shoot the images above, Slimane studied the work of Paul P., a Toronto-based artist who bases his "homoerotic and deeply romantic" images on young men in pre-70's porn.

Eau d'Ernest

Eaudernest

Ernest Hemingway, one of the prominent figures of the 21st century literature, became source of inspiration for one of the works exhibited in the 9th International Istanbul Biennale.

While Hemingway highlighted his fear of death in some of his books, he ended his life by shooting himself in 1961. Setting off from the question, “What kind of smell may express his paradoxical identity?” Bulgarian origin artist Daniel Bozhkov produced a perfume of which its dominant smell is “musk”. The name of the perfume meaning powerful, independent, but turbulent and sensitive is “Eau d’Ernest” and it is marketed under the slogan “elegance in difficulty”.

Bozhkov, combining the smell culture of the Ottoman period with today’s world in terms of the cultural and political atmosphere of 1920’s, explains the genesis of the project: “I had come to Istanbul to participate in the Biennial in 2003 and stayed in the Great London Hotel which had a big influence on me. Then, I learned that Hemingway also stayed in this hotel while he was a war reporter for the Toronto Daily Star newspaper in 1922. While I was staying in the hotel, the world was tense as well as in that period. I was interested in designing something to reflect the emotional state of that lonely man who was under pressure.” The artist recorded hundreds of Hemingway look-alikes a competition held in Key West in Florida every July and used the images for his advertising film.

The perfume will be launched on the market after the biennial, and has passed all clichés of the capitalist system. All processes like designing the bottle, writing the story of smell, shooting the film of the story and working with a musician have been realized. The situation carries the art and art work being to the verge of turning into a commercial object; however, the most delicate part of the issue says: “A promotional campaign composed of banner and ad films may direct people to think in that manner. But, when reading the notes in bottle’s label, they will understand this is not the same; because, they will find a complex and deep text.”

Those who want to find Hemingway’s both masculine and fragile personality in the perfume including anise and basil beside musk should visit Antrepo Number 5 until October 5. Visitors will be able to watch the ad film showing a young Ernest drinking a cup of Turkish coffee writes notes in the Great London Hotel lobby in 1922 and can buy the perfume at the biennial area.
